The Challenge

Despite working with a reputable design agency to craft a fresh, engaging visual direction, Kids Discover faced a critical challenge when it came time to implement the new design on their existing website. The project demanded advanced technical execution within a complex WordPress environment, requiring strict preservation of the existing database, historical content, and custom educational structures – all under a tight deadline.

Adding to the complexity, the new design called for the integration of intricate animations throughout the site to enhance interactivity. This elevated the technical demands of the project, requiring not only pixel-perfect front-end development but also seamless performance across all devices and platforms. A complete rebuild was off the table; what was needed was a careful, efficient implementation that respected the legacy system while delivering a modern, animated experience.

The Solution

To bring their redesigned vision to life, Kids Discover turned to Nopio on the recommendation of a trusted partner. From the outset, we worked closely with their team to define a clear and efficient plan of action that would meet all technical, design, and timeline requirements, without disrupting the core structure of their existing WordPress website.

At the heart of our solution was our proprietary ThemeFlex™ development approach, which allowed us to implement the new design quickly and precisely, minimizing visual discrepancies and ensuring smooth collaboration between designers and developers. To address the performance concerns posed by numerous Lottie animations, we advised converting selected animations to lightweight video formats. This preserved the intended interactivity while preventing slowdowns and maintaining a smooth user experience.

We also developed a comprehensive implementation strategy focused on reusing as many existing website features as possible, avoiding unnecessary redevelopment and reducing risk. Throughout the process, we maintained a meticulous change log, enabling us to efficiently reapply all non-code adjustments on the live site during deployment, ensuring a seamless launch with minimal downtime or disruption.

As an additional enhancement, we integrated the website’s forms with Zendesk using Zapier as an intermediary, streamlining support ticket creation and improving backend workflows. The result was a smooth, technically sound rollout that brought the new design to life, complete with animations, optimized performance, and full continuity with the existing platform.
